Ame SPOTLIGHT

Sarah

September’s Spotlight is on Sarah Bowden! Sarah was recently promoted to Senior Designer and we couldn’t be happier for her!

About Sarah: I have worked at Ame for 6 years! My passion for hair really stems from my background in art. I tend to treat every guest like a blank canvas waiting for me to paint my next masterpiece.

I was given the opportunity to complete my training right here at Ame where I learned from some of the most talented hairstylists.

The hair industry is constantly changing, thus I am always learning and attending continuing education classes in order to stay on the cutting edge. Helping my guests achieve the look they want is what makes me excited to come to work everyday!

Favorite Hair Product: I have always loved the Keratin Treatments. Keratin makes getting ready in the morning a breeze. Thanks to keratin, the humidity is no longer a struggle. Glotion Potion is one of my favorite products in the keratin line. It smells great and leaves my hair feeling silky smooth.

Hair Trend You are Loving: I am loving middle parts and “curtain bangs” that frame the face so nicely.

DIY Styling Secret: I can’t live without my dry shampoo. It helps my blow out last for days – even after hitting the gym! Kevin Murphy’s Fresh Hair is my favorite and it smells great! *I am right with Sarah on this one. I’m not even going to admit to how often I swap out suds for dry shampoo. P.S. I feel like the bottle of Fresh Hair lasts FOR-EVER, it never ends!

Contributing authors and Ame Designers Liz Corl, Meaghan Cianci, and Beth Forte are so excited about Fall Trends….and so am I! These ladies got together to discuss the newest fall trends and when I asked them what their favorites were, here’s what they came up with:

FALL COLOR

This fall season is all about the color; keeping it soft, tone-on-tone, and natural. Summer hair gets faded out so the inclination for our guests is to refresh their color; get it rich and looking healthy again. There is a big mix in color choices in the fall. The color varies between a preference of blonde or brunette. Around the end of September when people’s tans start to fade and they begin to transition to fall clothes, many tend to go darker with their color. Richer pigments are always requested more in the fall. The hot color trend for this fall is Bronde. A blonde can transition to shades of brown or a brunette will transition to shades of blonde. Blake Lively’s current color is a perfect example of Bronde. Other big fall colors are rich, deep browns and dimensional reds. Hair painting, baby lights, balayage, and sombre color techniques are here to stay for a while.

FALL STYLES

Like the hippie movement in the early 70’s, we feel a change happening in our culture and within ourselves. Styles are shifting from the conformity of the last few seasons. There’s a strong influence of 1970’s, anything goes, free love feel.  We are craving this freedom and embracing our own individuality. The styles for the fall are undone. The grunge style is making a comeback. Hairstyles are on the messier side and high textured is in.  Medium length lobs are still in. Women are growing out their short layers, angles and bangs and wearing the lob. The lob is moving from wavy to more straight or textured with an easy breezy feel to it. Women who need more edge are cutting shags and the timeless layered bobs are sticking around.

Cuts are mid-length. Lots of our guests are cutting their waist length hair for shorter lengths. For men, Beatlemania is back-at least for the hairstyle. Men are opting for the medium length Mop Top hairstyle as well as growing their hair long, putting it in a bun, and sporting beards.

Looking to update your look for the Fall without a drastic change? Try out some of these tips:

  • The simplest way to refresh your look is to change your part; the opposite side part or a middle part. It is amazing what a difference this can make. By changing your part, you can add volume and lift.
  • Definitely face framing hilites! It’s quick, inexpensive, and brightens and wakes up your face.
  • Create lots of big waves using a hot tool with a large or jumbo barrel.
  • Sport your own natural texture.
  • Wear Braids, twists, and headbands.
  • Schedule a hair restorative treatment like Olaplaex or a deep conditioning treatment.
  • You can create different textures by using your favorite hot tools. Style straight hair curly. Style curly to straight.
  • Put your hair in a cute, messy top knot. Make it look like you just rolled out of bed. No sock buns! The messier the better. Use loose pieces to frame and soften the face. Effortless (for some ;).

*If you’re anything like me, you are useless when it comes to styling your hair and even “easy” styles are hard to make happen. I rely on the help of Ame Designers to show me how to do these. Next time you are in, feel free to ask your Designer to teach you how to make these tips happen for you.
